JISC Collections Privacy Policy
Data Protection Statement
The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) is a strategic advisory committee working on behalf of the funding bodies for further and higher education (FE and HE) in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. To ensure continued success at the negotiating table and the ability to respond to the changing needs of the community, JISC has established a mutual trading company, The JISC Content Procurement Company Limited, which will trade as JISC Collections. The JISC Content Procurement Company Limited is the recognised data controller for data processed by JISC Collections.
During the administration of JISC Collections negotiated online subscription resources and for affiliate membership, JISC Collections collects and uses information from the education community and other organisations in the public sector, (which may be held for the lifetime of JISC Collections, or until informed otherwise by the data subject), in the following ways:
Membership of the JISC Collections
Personal information provided as part of the registration process to become an affiliate member of the JISC Collections, in particular contact details for the Contact representative, for communications regarding the JISC Collections for Schools project.
Subscription Services
Personal information provided as part of the subscription registration process is used by JISC Collections and other relevant third parties to administer the subscription.
Contact Details
JISC Collections may also use the contact details provided by you (such as your name, job title, telephone and fax number, your e-mail and postal addresses) to keep you informed of new online subscription resources from JISC Collections for Schools, either by post, phone or e-mail. In order to do so, your data will be added to the JISC Collections for Schools Contacts Database and made available to other staff within JISC Collections.
Please remember that you can alter or register your communication preferences at any time.
Third Parties
We do not sell trade or rent your e-mail contact addresses to any third parties. In line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, the JISC Collections Team will use the information you have provided on the Licence Agreements for the administration of your subscription(s) to online subscription resources through JISC Collections for Schools project. In order to do this it will be necessary for JISC Collections to transfer the information you have provided to third parties who are involved in the administration of your subscription, namely:
- the publishers of the content
- the service providers, who will provide access to the online resource
- the invoicing agent who will raise the invoice for your subscription
Voluntary Information
JISC Collections may ask you for further information such as your areas of professional interest and your area(s) of responsibility. This information will be held and used to further improve the way JISC Collections keeps you informed of potential electronic resources as part of the consultation process, relevant new online resources from JISC Collections, information on other JISC Collections for Schools activities and to target your needs more effectively.
